Bamboo Floral – Kingston Lacy Estate ca. 1790
This design is based on small painted sections of Chinese wallpaper found at the Kingston Lacy estate in Dorset. Little is known about these fragments, and it is unclear whether the pattern was actually used in the house itself. Imported Chinese wallpapers were extremely popular in country estates in the 19th century, and decorators would cut individual elements and place them side by side on panels to give the wallpaper a panoramic effect. It is quite possible that the fragments found are remnants of this process. This design has been transformed into a repeating pattern for modern interiors and produced in surface print in five fresh colors, each adding a contemporary color accent.
