Burges Butterfly – Knightshayes Court, Devon ca. 1878
"The 'Burges Butterfly' adorns the walls of the Boudoir at Knightshayes Court in Devon and was designed by William Burges (1827-1881), an architect and designer of the Neo-Gothic style. It is closely associated with another wallpaper from the same era, the 'Burges Snail.' Like the 'Burges Snail,' the design does not have a deeper historical connection to Knightshayes Court, Burges' only complete mansion, but is another Burges pattern influenced by his passion for the architecture and art of medieval Europe and Asian design. This whimsical and enchanting wallpaper has been reproduced in five contemporary surface-printed color variations."
